Now you can send only 100 SMS a day – TRAI

The unlimited SMS packs have been smashed down with the new move of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Despite of continuous opposition from the telecom operators, TRAI is firm at its decision to restrict SMS to 100 per day per SIM for all subscribers. TRAI has come at this decision to curb the menace of pesky SMSs such as promotional and advertising messages. However, this restriction will not be valid on the festive days.

The schedule of sending not more than 100 SMS a day will come into effect from 27th of September, 2011. According to TRAI the effectiveness of this move will impede telemarketers from annoying subscribers with spam calls and SMS.

Before this move, TRAI announced Per Day Per SIM (PPDS) rule. This rule asked the telecom operators to withdraw SMS service packs that allow service providers to send more than 100 SMS a day.

In reaction of the move of TRAI, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) urged the telecom regulator to reconsider its decision saying that the move of not allowing subscribers to send more than 100 SMS a day is against the fundamental right.

Impact:
By limiting the numbers of SMS that can be send per day per SIM, the TRAI has created discontent among the youth. Young cell phone users are highly reliable on SMS packs for communication instead of costly calls. They extensively use the messaging services to communicate with friends.

Cell phone use in children & adolescents

The usage of mobile phone among children & adolescents has increased in last few years. The increased usage of cell phone in growning age has raised serious physical and social concerns.  Medical experts from different parts of the world claim that the possibility of development of brain tumors is high among kids and adolescents since they have  growing nervous system. Small circumference of their heads allows deeper penetration of radio frequency electromagnetic field and interaction with brain becomes easier, which causes tumor.
High usage of cell phone among kids and adolescents is very dangerous to their social behavior. It leads to social isolation in real sense. Kids and adolescents do not want face-to-face with people. They become used to phone-chat. Often they get involved in adult chat, which impacts their innocent brain badly.

Let me share few true instances with you:

Place: Dwarka, Delhi
An 8th standards gal, her cell phone and…

Three years ago, I was waiting outside Dwarka, Sec-9 station for metro feeder bus. It was 9 in the morning. I saw a little girl in school dress with her Nokia XpressMusic 5310. Not to wonder, I was the poor owner of Nokia 2626 at that time and was in Graduation 2nd year. I thought the girl would go to school or a school trip. But case was entirely different from the thoughts that was lingering in my silly mind. In the mean time, I realized that a lady is accompanying with her. That lady was trying to convince her to get back to home but the girl was arguing bitterly. I started having interest in the affair. A metro feeder bus came, but I ignored despite knowing that I will get late to office (I was doing internship project in a public relation firm). After sometime, that lady came to me and whole picture get cleared to me. That lady was her maid.
I got to know that her parents had gone to a business trip to Gujarat for one week and the girl was planning to elope with her boyfriend, who was in 9th standard. I was shocked to know the case. The whole plan was fabricated on the bloody cell phone. I cannot blame the parents for leaving their girl alone as other members were at home. But I will surely blame them for giving a cell phone to their 8th class kid.

Place: Shakarpur, Delhi
11th class student, her phone, teacher & her ruined life…
I was staying in a private hostel. 11th class girl was staying in just another room. The girl was good at her study. She did well in her first term exam. After that, she demanded a cell phone from her parents. Her parents gifted a phone to the daughter out of love. The girl somehow get into contact with her tutor, who used to give her home tuition when she was in class 7. The relation between the girl and the teacher was very formal as like teacher-student. She started giving him call whenever, she get bored. Both of them could not realize the limits, they crossed. They stated non-sense talk on the phone, which ruined her career ultimately. She scored only 48% in her final exam and could not get admission in a good college. I tried many times to make her understand to keep away cell phone and concentrate on study, but in vain. The girl is still in contact with and she repents a lot. Her teacher is now married to another girl and has one son. The girl is left alone with a dark future…
